Data Systems Labels

Laser bar code labels, United Label

Laser printers are great choices when producing batches of labels. However, if you need only one label at a time you should consider a different option. When you plan to have multiple labels per page, a dot matrix or thermal transfer printer is the way to  go. Laser printing provides the best quality for label production out of all types of printing applications. There are several types of label stock currently available for laser printers.

Inkjet laserjet bar code labels, United Label

Inkjet Labels

These printers produce relatively high quality labels. Inkjet label are also cost efficient.  Because most inkjet ink is water-soluble, if the labels  will be exposed to water then inkjet printing is not right choice for you. Inkjet printers are not ideal use for labels exposed to outdoor conditions. In addition, they must not be subjected to constant scanning.

Thermal Labelsthermal printer, United Label bar code labels

When you are printing one label at a time, thermal transfer printers are necessary. Another example would be applying a roll of labels to boxes with applicators. Thermal Transfer Volume industrial printing is done using thermal transfer printers. These labels do have drawbacks however. These drawbacks include that IR light scanners cannot read most thermal labels. Another drawback is they deteriorate in sunlight over time. As a result, these labels eventually become unreadable. However, you can get almost any type of label stock to use with thermal transfer printers. These would include:

  • high temperature
  • jewelry ring stock
  • Datamax Printerweather proof
  • card stock
  • surface laminated
  • tag stock
