United Label – New Jersey’s Labeling Solution

About United Label Corporation

United Label operates both flexographic and digital label presses as a custom label printer.  Our presses allow for printing labels up to six colors with laminate, varnish and inline die cuts as well as full color digital. Even with conventional flexographic presses, we make our own plates and negatives in our factory which allows for greater control and faster development of custom labels.

Custom Label Printer Since 1965

United Label Corporation was founded in 1965. The company started business as a Custom Label Manufacturer in downtown Newark, New Jersey. The four founders had years of combined experience in the custom label printing business.

The founders saw the need for a higher level of quality and customer service in the label business. United Label Corporation has always responsive to the label printing needs of our customers. United Label Corporation works under the belief that the client / vendor relationship is most important.

The late 1960’s was not a great time to be doing business in Newark. During the riots of  1967, United Label Corporation had snipers on its roof.  Soon, United Label moved out of downtown Newark. They eventually built their own factory in Newark’s Ironbound district. United Label has been in Newark’s Ironbound district ever since.

In 1996, John O’Connor joined United Label Corporation as the founders began to retire. John started in sales of United Label Corporation’s custom pressure sensitive labels. Eventually, he worked his way up to general manager. Finally,  John O’Connor became the sole owner of United Label Corporation in 2011.

In 2019 United Label began using state of the art Konica Minolta Accurio Label 190 digital label printing presses along with the  Metas Finishing System to laminate, die cut and slit labels smaller runs of labels more quickly and efficiently.

Flexographic and Digital Presses

United Label uses primarily flexographic presses for its custom pressure sensitive label printing. As a result, these high-speed label presses allow for printing labels with up to six colors. This also includes four color process color.  Flexographic presses also allow for laminating, varnishing and die cutting labels.  Flexographic presses offer an economical alternative to sheet fed presses for label printing. United Label makes their own printing plates and negatives in their Newark, NJ factory. Making one’s own plates allows for greater control over the printing process.  In addition, it allows for producing labels quickly when needed.

United Label Corporation is GMI certified as a print packaging supplier to Target Corporation.
