United Label operates primarily flexographic presses for its custom pressure sensitive label making which allows us to print up to six colors, laminate, varnish and die cut inline. We make our own plates and negatives in our factory which allows us to greater control and faster development of custom labels.
Founded in 1965
United Label Corporation was founded in 1965 in downtown Newark, New Jersey. The four founders had dozens of years of combined experience in the custom label printing business.
The four founders saw a need for a higher level of quality and customer service in the custom label business. United Label Corporation has always responsive to customers custom label printing needs. United Label Corporation conducts ourselves based on the philosophy that we exist because of our valued relationships with our clients and to serve them.
The late 60’s was not a fortuitous time to be founding a business in downtown Newark. During the riots of ’67, United Label Corporation had snipers on the roof. Soon United Label moved out of downtown Newark and built its own factory in Newark’s Ironbound district which is several miles to the west. United Label has been in Newark’s Ironbound district ever since.
In 1996 John O’Connor joined United Label Corporation as the founders began to retire. John started in sales of United Label Corporation’s custom pressure sensitive labels and worked his way up to general manager and finally, in 2011 John O’Connor became the sole owner of United Label Corporation.
United Label uses primarily flexographic presses for its custom pressure sensitive label printing. These high speed label presses allow us to print up to six colors, including four color process color. Flexographic presses also allow us to laminate, varnish and die cut in line. Flexographic presses offer an economical alternative to sheet fed presses. United Label makes our own plates and negatives in our Newark, New Jersey factory. Making our own plates allows us to both exercise greater control over the printing process. Making our own plates allows us to produce labels quickly when needed.
